Seabrook Island Oceanfront Homes – Vacation at One of America’s Oldest Known Sites
Seabrook Island oceanfront homes are located in South Carolina’s beautiful Lowcountry region, in one of the most historic areas in the United States. Seabrook’s history goes back to approximately 200 B.C., according to archaeological findings. When the American Revolution was being fought, the British and Hessian troops used the island. Eventually the island was sold to William Seabrook, who lived on Edisto Island. In the early 1900′s, the island was primarily used for recreation purposes. At one time, part of the island was used by the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina for a children’s camp.
Seabrook Island oceanfront homes are built along the beautiful, quiet beaches and sand dunes to offer visitors the opportunity to explore one of the most historic areas of the country, and enjoy a relaxing vacation. The island is a privately owned community, but offers visitors opportunities for championship golf, tennis, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and horseback riding among the dunes. The island is secluded and very peaceful, but is still close to all that historic Charleston, only 30 minutes away, has to offer vacationers. During the day, visitors watch the birds in the salt marshes, and fish in the many little streams that run through the Lowcountry. The islands have something for everyone to enjoy, from a wildlife sanctuary and the outermost island, to a variety of family activities.
One of the greatest attractions close to Seabrook Island oceanfront homes and Kiawah Island, is the Bohicket Marina & Market. The marina is located between Seabrook and Kiawah, and is one of the best reasons to vacation on the islands. The marina has 200 wet slips and 90 dry storage slips available, so boating enthusiasts who are visiting for a long weekend, or for the summer, have a place to tie up their boat, or keep it in storage while enjoying the islands. Close to the island you can visit the Irvin House Vineyards, Night Heron Park, and the Charleston Tea Plantation.
Once you’re settled at Seabrook Island oceanfront homes, plan on spending time at the Bohicket Market before heading out on your boat to explore the surrounding area. When you’ve tied up for the night, plan on dining at one of the restaurants at the market to sample the local Lowcountry food and have a cool drink while enjoying the spectacular sunsets. The barrier islands of South Carolina have everything you need for a relaxing and memorable vacation, and while staying at Seabrook, you’ll have the chance to explore the cities of the South Carolina Lowcountry, including Charleston, Beaufort, and Hilton Head. Since Charleston is only 20 miles from the island, some of the attractions you may want to take in while vacationing here, are the Historic Homes Walk, the Gates of Charleston with a variety of shops and boutiques, the Civil War Walk, and the Antiques District.
